A day tour to Dead Sea is something that every tourist looks forward to. The Dead Sea lies bordering Jordan, the West Bank and Jordan. It lies 1269 feet below sea level. At present, 25 km of the Dead Sea coastline lies within the Palestinian territory which includes Qumran.

However, if you plan a Dead Sea tour from the Israeli and the West Bank side then it is a day trip from Jerusalem and is 39 km from the Northern side of the Dead Sea and from Eilat it is 220 km from the Southern side of the Dead Seam, and from Tel Aviv it is 98 km from the Northern Dead Sea. There are 3 main entry points by road by which you can reach the Dead Sea area.

The prime access points are from the oases of Ein Gedi and Ein Bokek and both these are accessible through bus routes from Jerusalem (lines 486 and 487). Both these places have access to beaches and are open to public but the Ein Bokek’s beach is the better one. There are taxi services that you may avail to reach the Dead Sea.

Dead Sea tours include a trip to Masada which is a mountaintop fortress. The Masada National Park is situated 18 km from the south of Ein Gedi and 12 km from Ein Bokek. It is open seven days a week.

This mountaintop fortress was converted into a 3-tiered winter home during 35 BC. This place is easily accessible through a ride in the cable car or by hiking up a serpentine path. This is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The Masada sound and light show is very popular and there is a natural amphitheater where spectators are seated to watch this spectacular event.
